The story of Malco and Silvia

Valeggio is a small town in the valley of the River  Mincio.
A pearl between the more prestigious  cities  of Verona and Mantova.
These cities owe their popularity to a famous  tragedy: Romeo and Juliet,although they also  offer magic historical sites and a lively athmosphere.
Valeggio sul Mincio  can proudly boast its own  Love Legend:The story of Malco and  Silvia: The Love Knot.
Here's the story: Captain Malco fell in love with a  nymph whose name is Silvia,a beautiful creature who lived beneath the surface of  River Mincio.
Marco begged Silvia to remain with him forever but  the nymph had to return
to the river before dawn or she would have been  changed into a wrecked witch.
Before disappearing she left with Malco a golden  scarf  tied in a Knot
as a symbol of undying love.
Silvia  returned to Malco the following nights  but the two lovers had to face
Isabella hatred,the count's cousin who was  secretly in love with Malco too.
Malco and Silvia had to flee this world and find a  place for them into the
beloved river...on the Mincio  banks a  golden  knotted silk scarf was found:
the symbol of Malco and Silvia endless love  .
The story is still retold today and young ladies of  Valeggio reproduce
the knotten golden veil when making savoury  tortellini:our love knots.
The recipe is codified and protected, the taste is  unique, every home and restaurant make its own tortellini with a personal  touch.
Common feature of the daily hand made gems:  extremely thin - stretched pasta and delicate aroma.
A legend , they are worth...a love  legend!

Every year the more than 40 restaurant of  Valeggio sul Mincio
celebrate The Love knot with a memorable dinner on  the Visconteo Bridge
in our cosy medioeval site, Borghetto.
The event takes place the 3rd tuesday  in June every summer.
A success since 1993:fascinating landscape,  the XI th century Scaligeri Castle and the XIII th century Visconteo  Bridge: a tribute to  local history.
Famous pasta: tons of  daily homemade  tortellini served by joyful restaurant owners and their staff,
Medioeval masks strolling down the bridge ...at  sunset,
a troop of bottles of white and red wines to make  everyone happier.
A rich menu, special guests and in the end  ...spectacular fireworks from the Ancient Castle.

The Love Knot breathtaking dinner: a  mid-summer night dream come true,
in Valeggio sul Mincio, the most famous   Italian Pasta Corner in the world.

The price is 65,00 per  pers.
In case of rain, the ARV may decide to  cancel  the event ,
no refund will be given.
